Changes to the contents
The contents of this site can be modified, updated or deleted without prior notice.
The following is agreed:
By the publisher
Online publishing is subject to the same legal requirements as traditional publishing. The Banque de France authorises readers to print all or part of the site's contents, provided this is strictly for their own personal use.
Under no circumstances may the Banque de France be held liable for any direct or indirect damages arising from the use of its website or sites to which it is linked.
By users
Users of the site undertake to respect the intellectual property rules governing the site's contents. In other words, they agree not to copy all or part of the site onto another site or onto a corporate intranet.
Users are solely responsible for the use they make of the information and data contained on the site.
Violation of these clauses subjects the offender, as well as all liable parties, to the penalties provided for under civil and criminal law.
The following are permitted:
Quotations
A quotation is the reproduction of an excerpt from a publication. Quotations respect authorial moral rights by indicating the author's name and the source. They are necessarily short so as to avoid plagiarism. The term "short" applies equally to the quotation's length with respect to the publication from which it is taken, as to its length with respect to the publication into which it is inserted. A quotation is intended to illustrate an idea and must not compete with the text from which it was taken. If many quotations are made, this constitutes an anthology, which is considered to be a derived work and hence must be submitted for prior consent to the author or other entitled party.
Analyses
Analyses must respect the author's moral rights. They are not bound by the same rules of brevity as quotations. An analysis is an original text consisting of a critical assessment. However, merely reading the analysis of an article or publication is not a substitute for reading the actual article or publication.
Creating links:
Outward links
Links appearing on this site are given for informational purposes.
Links to the Banque de France
The Banque de France may not be held liable in any way as a result of a link to its site from another website.
It is possible to create a link to a site without the express permission of the publisher, provided that this link opens a new browser window. When proposing a link, the initial site must give the address of the second site. The address must be clear and legible. However, the Banque de France reserves the right to request the removal of links that it feels do not conform with its editorial policy.
The Banque de France's express permission must be sought in other cases, and especially if:
- you wish to display the Banque de France logo, or
- the contents of the Banque de France website has to be integrated into the contents of your site, in particular via frames, or
- access to the pages containing the link to the Banque de France website is not free.
The following are prohibited unless prior permission has been obtained:
Electronic reproduction
Persons subscribing to, buying or using a publication or article in hard-copy or digital format obtain only user's rights to the publication or article, i.e. the article or publication can be read by one or more readers, or stored for personal or private use.
No intellectual property rights, and, in particular, no rights to produce copies of any kind (e.g. using a photocopier, scanner or digital equipment), are conferred by the acquisition of a publication or article, although a single copy may be made, provided this is intended solely for personal use.
All other types of use are therefore subject to the prior consent of the Banque de France.
Distribution over an Intranet
Contents distributed without the Banque de France's prior consent over an Intranet or computer network are subject to copyright laws.
Creating archives
Persons subscribing to, buying or using a publication or article in hard-copy or digital format obtain only user's rights to the publication or article. Consequently, under no circumstances may such contents be archived in digital or optical media without prior permission.
